Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex and Sustainable Solutions Inc. (SSI) have agreed to pool product development and marketing resources to serve applications using regenerated leather and other post-industrial waste.
Through the SmartStreams process developed by SSI, manufacturing waste, such as leather scrap, is processed and used in high-value automotive seating, furniture upholstery and other applications. Dow Reichhold enhances the SmartStreams process through both advanced latex binder chemistry and access to experienced new product development resources.
Branded products currently produced include: Thermold, a unique, nonwoven material with thermo-molding properties that can be used as a replacement for traditional plastics. Dilusso, a specialty composite rollgood made from regenerated leather and sustainable materials, offers a look and feel matching natural leather products.
UrbanWood, an alternative for medium-density fiberboard, is made from shipping pallets and other materials.
