Color and design trends suggest that consumers seek light, bright, uplifting palettes. Pantone Color Institute pinpointed rich yellow-orange Mimosa as the color of 2009, and predicts many variations of yellow will continue to be popular into 2010, including gold. Metallics will be seen with imperfect surfaces, such as hammered and burnished, and now it’s all right to mix your metals—silver and gold combinations will be important. Color combinations won’t adhere to traditional rules either; warms and cools will be paired, and wood finishes will reflect that attitude, too.

Furniture manufacturer Taylor King complements gold with lavender accents this year, and uses bold textures. Fabrics in its line include blue hues in geometric patterns. Interlocking circle patterns are also finding their ways into consumer’s homes, whether through fabric patterns, rugs or accessories.
