Airbags for bikers
Upholstery Journal | June 2008
The Dutch Cyclists’ Union has called for cars to be installed with an airbag in the front of the windscreen to better protect cyclists during collisions with automobiles.
The call was made after a report released by Dutch technical research organization TNO showed collisions between vehicles and bicycles usually result in the cyclist’s head slamming against the windshield. The report predicted outside airbags could save 60 lives per year and reduce the number of serious injuries by 1,500.
