This classic Fritz Hansen Swan Chair was stripped down to reveal a broken shell. The shell was repaired and the fabric panels were copied. The fabric pieces were pinned onto the chair’s frame using more than 100 pins. The upholstery was stitched by hand with carpet thread. Some areas of the insides were spray-glued to hold the fabric in place with no pucker. Everything else was stitched on by hand—inside to outside.

Judges comments: Wow! This would be extremely difficult to finish. The hand-stitching would be painstaking. Very difficult project with excellent craftsmanship. Hand-sewn—upholsterers still do that?
