In Sept. 2008, Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, Texas. This antique sofa remained in salt water for nearly one week. In Jan. 2009, the customer finally obtained approval from their insurance company to replace or repair items from their home. When the sofa first arrived, all of the carved wood had become unglued. The springs were rusty and almost everything had to be thrown away. The wood had to be dried out before we could begin the process of stripping the wood, regluing the entire frame and staining the wood. Using only a partial photograph of the original sofa, we began the process of upholstering. Tne end result was a beautifully restored antique sofa. The 90-year-old customer was very pleased.

Judges comments: This is a beautiful recovery of a damaged antique. Wonderful fabric choice. Excellent craftsmanship, tufting and design. Great restoration. Nice, nice, nice—everything about this piece and job.

    My Mother's Sofa

Out of all the pieces we had restored, this sofa came out   best.  Beautiful tuffs.  When you can please a 91 year old Mother who wants everything back like it was, it was a joy to replace this sofa back into her rebuilt home.
