Custom seats in a Beretta

The seats in this car were in terrible condition. Patterning from the original material was out of the question due to condition, so patterns were created. Each panel was sewn to ½-inch sew foam and maroon cloth was used for the bolsters, skirt and backs. Maroon tweed was sewn for the inserts of the seats. Zippers were sewn into the backrests and headrests for ease of installation and a clean finished product. These seats were a challenge because of the peculiar shape of the backrests. Also, the back seat backrest is four pieces with a stationary outer perimeter and fold-down armrest, left and right backrest insert. Because of the age of the vehicle, the foam was in very poor condition, so the foam was rebuilt in every bolster. The project was for a customer looking to restore his wife’s Chevy Beretta Z26. He purchased the car for her from the factory in 1994 and she loves it so much, she refuses to buy a new car. Restoring the car’s interior was his gift to her. 40 hours.
Judges comments: Very well done for a job requiring the upholsterer to start from scratch and redo padding. Nice work with two different fabric types and weights; lots of pieces going on. Contrasting fabrics are very difficult to do. A ground-up rebuild is very difficult.
