Dining banquettes
Gold, 2010 Design & Craftsmanship Awards
Heirloom Upholstery, Danbury, Conn.
Upholstery Journal | August 2010
This dining banquette with under-seat storage was created from the ground up, using only a vague pencil sketch. All dimensional lumber was glued and screwed with deck screws to be very strong and resilient. Methods used included wet-bent plywood lamination for the curves, built-in two sections and assembled onsite at mitre. The entire banquette is covered inside and out. This banquette will be used at a combination dining table and workstation in a family common area.
Judges comments: Nice design. It’s a challenge working with curved lumber. Creative lift-tops and good color coordination. Very impressed that an upholstery shop took on a project that included woodworking.
