California establishes new eco-textile certifier
Upholstery Journal | August 2010
The Green Products Innovation Institute, a new institute intended to support California’s Green Chemistry Initiative, will now issue Cradle to Cradle certifications. These certifications aim to provide a range of industries with a method for measuring achievement in environmentally intelligent design. As of 2009, the label also has introduced a new Approved Ingredient certification program.
This program, which applies to textiles and clothing, assesses the sustainability of product ingredients, as well as their recyclability or compostability. Choosing certified materials makes it easier to select eco-friendly options at the beginning of the design process.
