As a whole, consumers have not been overly receptive to chemical and pesticide-free textiles when it comes to covering furniture. Manufacturers estimate that only 10 to 20 percent of consumers are interested in eco-friendly upholstery, often young mothers or those already interested in organic lifestyles. This, however, has not stopped manufacturers from offering eco-friendly options.

TIndustry specialists believe this lack of interest stems from people simply not knowing what to look for when it comes to eco-friendly textiles. The vague definition of what makes a product green can lead to confusion on the consumer level. Manufacturers can help to increase interest by helping consumers select textiles that are the best for them and the environment.
