Upholstery Fair 2010 a success
Upholstery Journal | October 2010
The first Upholstery Fair, held in West Lafayette, Ind., was a unique experience for those interested in the field of upholstery. A venue was created for professionals to explore different aspects of the trade, such as maintaining the integrity of a treasured antique, creating a new seat from the frame up, making a comfortable and durable cushion, addressing the wood finish, applied auto and marine upholstery, and slipcover creation.
The Upholstery Fair, created by the Professional Upholstery and Soft Furnishings Group, had a mix of attendees, including upholsterers, window treatment professionals, business owners, start up businesses, and do-it-yourselfers.
Dubois Fabrics and Charlotte Fabrics sponsored the event, and Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines exhibited sewing machines and supplies, and was on hand to give individual demonstrations on machine maintenance.
The volunteers who taught seminars were experienced, the participants were passionate and creative, and the between-class gatherings yielded a ton of back and forth sharing of ideas and resources.
Upholstery Fair 2012 will focus more on specific hands-on training, and is tentatively scheduled in Vilonia, Ark.
